Artist: Harriet Peck Taylor
Harriet is a naturalist- she studies tracks and signs of wildlife. She wrote about creating this scene, "For many years, I have used trail cameras along obscure game trails. They use infrared to take photos of wildlife remotely without the animal ever noticing since there is no flash of any kind. It is a lot of fun but frustrating and challenging to find a good spot that various animals use, to set up the camera property, and to be patient to see who may come by. Bears will rub their fur on trees over many generations until often, the tree bark is almost smooth and if you look carefully, you can see hairs clinging to the bark. This painting was inspired by one of the photos though I took artistic license in the happy scene!” A black bear scratches his back against a tree in a field of flowers and butterflies.
The caption reads "A Good Tree Makes Life Bearable."
